If we were about to be left behind on a "Survivor" island and could only bring one black tea, our organic Nilgiri single estate tea would be our choice. This exceptional black tea from the famed Nilgiri “Blue” mountains of southern India infuses into an appealingly smooth, soft brew with little of the tannic bitterness inherent in oxidized black teas. Fine Nilgiri teas resemble the bright, mellow flavor of quality Ceylon teas from nearby Sri Lanka, but with a unique elegance and purity. The leaves are tolerant and minimize oversteeping. A great choice as a morning or afternoon tea, plain or with the addition of milk and sugar.
The Korakundah Estate is the one of the highest tea estates in the world sitting majestically at an altitude of 8,000 ft. Usually enveloped in thick swirling mist and clouds, the estate is blessed with a breath taking panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and hillsides. The combination of the organic cultivation, the high elevation, the rainfall pattern and the attentive care of the harvests at Korakundah create a perfectly balanced character of a flavorful and yet smooth cup of black tea.
Heat water (filtered if possible) to a boil 212˚F and allow to cool slightly to around 190˚F. Add one rounded teaspoon of loose leaf tea per cup (apprx. 8 ounces). Infuse the tea leaves for 3–5 minutes depending on taste preference. Can be drunk plain or with the addition of milk and sugar. Also makes a superb iced tea.
