The Hibiscus Sabdariffa bush is more commonly known as “Jamaica Flowers.” This tea blends the wonderful flavors of organic Jamaica Flowers with organic Rooibos and organic Honey Bush to create a full-bodied, fruity tea with a deep red infusion. The Jamaica Flowers are hand picked when they become plump and a vibrant red color. These dried, reddish-purple flowers are used in teas, wines and tonics throughout the world. The flowers have a vitamin C content along with other health beneficial properties. Their tart flavor blends well with the mellow nature of the rooibos leaves. This exceptional blend has a strong and fruity body that finishes with accent notes of mango, passion fruit and rare island spices. A great hot or iced tea.
Heat water to 200˚F and add one generous teaspoon loose leaf tea per cup (apprx. 8 ounces). Infuse the tea for 4–5 minutes depending on taste preference.
INGREDIENTS: Organic rooibos, organic hibiscus, organic honey bush, organic lemongrass, organic schizandra berries, organic rosehips, organic licorice root, organic orange peel, natural passion fruit flavor, natural essential oils of orange and tangerine, natural mango flavor and natural essential clove oil.
The rooibos bush only grows in a small area of the Western Cape province of South Africa. Generally, the leaves are oxidized in a process that produces the distinctive reddish-brown colour of rooibos and enhances the flavor of the tea. In South Africa it is more common to drink rooibos with milk and sugar, but elsewhere it is usually served without.
The flavor of rooibos tea is often described as being sweet (without sugar added) and slightly nutty. Rooibos can be prepared in the same manner as black tea. Unlike black tea, however, rooibos does not become bitter when steeped for a long time. Also marketed as "red tea" here in the U.S., rooibos is a popular caffeine-free alternative to a black tea and can also be used to make a wonderful iced tea.
