Originally created as a blend that embraced the spirit of the holiday season, our customers requested that we carry this tea all year round. The blend uses the caffeine-free South African rooibos for creating the body of the tea with the addition of real peppermint leaves and natural chocolate flavor to round out a wonderful tea that echoes one of our favorite seasonal treats which usually only appears for a few weeks in winter: Peppermint Bark Candy.
Again, this tea is a subtle reminder of the holiday confection, it isn't candy in a cup. We've had that before with another tea company's Christmas Candy tea with real candy cane pieces mixed with black tea and it was a bit overwhelming. In the end, we kind of feel that tea (or tisane) should still be tea; candy should be candy.
The extra bits and pieces in the blend? A blend of just rooibos leaves and peppermint is; well, brown or muddy green. Not very visually appealing to be honest. By adding some dried apple pieces and orange peel the tea has a nicer presentation and the flavor added is a slight sweet note that enhances the chocolate without being distinctly apple or orange tasting. A great tea to drink while preparing for the holidays especially if you enjoy this recipe for making your own homemade Peppermint Bark Holiday candy.
Heat water (filtered if possible) to boiling 212˚F, let it cool slightly and add one full teaspoon loose leaf tea per cup (apprx. 8 ounces). Infuse the loose tea for 3–5 minutes depending on taste preference, add sweetener and a touch of milk if desired.
